Introduction

Rapid Racking concluded work on a highly successful project for MPAC, a specialist in designing, building and supporting the machines that enable companies worldwide to achieve both manual and automated assembly and packaging success.

Rapid Racking’s goal was simple: to massively increase the operational capacity of MPAC’s Tadworth site, removing overspill issues and helping to streamline the day-to-day processes, while also working with MPAC’s specific brand-linked colour requirements.

During the project, our design team focused on MPAC’s Adapt. Evolve. Grow. principles, making sure to work with these tenants to create a solution to match the company’s ethos.

Why did MPAC choose Rapid Racking?

During the consultation process, it became abundantly clear that Rapid Racking were the top choice for the job, with our designer, James Simpson, conducting multiple surveys and consultations before the contract was signed. This early determination proved Rapid Racking’s commitment to the project. MPAC also enquired about utilising a custom colour way for their racking, which our design team worked to accommodate.

MPAC enjoyed the straightforward, no-nonsense approach taken by the Rapid design team — recognising that Rapid weren’t just willing to deliver the project, they were also invested in the solution. James was confident with the project and took the time to communicate with all involved parties, including the warehouse managers and stakeholders. Because of this, MPAC awarded Rapid the job.

The project’s success

With the guidance of Rapid Racking designer, James, MPAC opted to go for a 2-Tier system to take advantage of the new warehouse’s increased height. James’ design solution would allow for the aforementioned overspill to be wiped out, moving it away from the working floor, freeing up a lot of extra space which would allow for the placement of more working machinery, vastly increasing production potential.

As Mathew from MPAC clearly stated: “machines on the work floor make money, storing boxes on the work floor costs us money!” As well as logistics and optimisation, MPAC have a strong interest in reducing their environmental footprint, which was another key target for James and the design team. With this in mind throughout the project, the end result has enabled a much more streamlined production line, cutting back on unnecessary truck use and trips between warehouses, and has allowed MPAC to be more strategic with their waste disposal.

Communication

The design team kept in close contact with MPAC throughout the project, meaning that any issues were resolved quickly and effectively, making for a smooth project overall.

Led by James, the design team sourced and successfully installed a large volume of custom 2-Tier racking, which has enabled MPAC to take their storage solution to fresh, aesthetic heights. Consistent communication flowed between teams, quashing issues before they were able to become problems.

Positive outcome

This large-scale project has been a massive success, with Rapid Racking successfully developing a more streamlined and efficient warehousing solution that has allowed for the removal of any storage overspill, allowing MPAC to fully optimise their work floor with the fitting of additional machines, improving productivity — all while reducing the carbon footprint that was previously being impacted by unnecessary operations.

Mathew and the MPAC team were extremely impressed with Rapid Racking and are currently looking at going ahead with a smaller, secondary project later this year. Asked if he’d recommend Rapid Racking, Mathew said: “yes, definitely.” What higher praise could we ask for?
