Some companies chase trends. Others set them. Our arrival in the 1980s shook up the UK storage market with heavy-duty boltless shelving that set a trend still going strong today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where it all began<\/strong>…<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s 1986. Big hair and big shoulder pads are in. Billy Ocean is number one in the charts. Back to the Future<\/em> is playing at the cinema. On a cold Friday in February, in a village near Stroud, the world of heavy duty shelving is about to change forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forty years ago, bigger was definitely better. But big shelving systems were clunky and bolt-heavy, assembly was slow, and “heavy duty\u201d didn\u2019t always live up to its name. The storage market needed a radical change and, on 21 February 1986, it got one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we launched Rapid 1<\/a> it wasn\u2019t just a game changer, it was a revolution. The first boltless system of its kind, it delivered a blend of strength and simplicity never before seen. No fiddly fixings. No wasted time. Just strong, interlocking rivet design making assembly quicker, easier and far more efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it was all available by mail order\u2014the closest thing the 80s had to online shopping. Rapid Racking gave busy customers exactly what they needed. Businesses around the UK took notice\u2026 and never looked back.<\/p>\n\n\n

Going strong after 40 years, it\u2019s not just our \u2018customer-first\u2019 ethos that hasn\u2019t changed. The Rapid 1 shelving of today barely differs from its original design. Because when something works this well, you stick with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
